Little Emmalyn's bilirubin levels have decreased, which is great news. As of this morning, she was at 13 mg/dL which is a significant drop from yesterday's levels of 17 mg/dL. Her hospital discharge levels were 9.6 mg/dL, so she did have a significant increase during her first couple of days at home.
So what does it mean? You can find plenty of information on the internet discussing what levels are safe, concerning, dangerous, etc... It looks like anything over 10 mg/dL is considered jaundiced, 15 mg/dL requires phototherapy treatment (a bilibed like the one we were given), 19 mg/dL usually results in hospitalization, and anything over 22 mg/dL involved possibilities Mommy and Daddy don't even want to think about.
But Emmalyn is back into the normal zone and hopefully falling. Mommy and Daddy have been instructed to continue to keep her on the bed at all times and another blood test in the morning will hopefully put at her original discharge levels or lower.
We'll let you know how the next test goes!
