Today was Emmalyn's 5-week birthday. Her weekend started off great with an excellent doctor's visit where she weighed in at a whole 7 lbs., 9 oz. She has reached 20.25 inches in length and the only thing Mommy and Daddy need to keep an eye on is her sensitive little stomach. She has been spitting up quite a bit during meals, so the doctor has ordered rice grain to be added to her bottle in order to thicken up the milk. It's a very easy treatment and appears to working well. And as a bonus, the rice grain has tons of good vitamins and nutrients to add to the mix. Most importantly, the rice grain does not affect her ability to get milk-wasted, as you can see below.
After her appointment, she visited Daddy at work for the second day in a row!
Her weekend was pretty uneventful with a few exceptions. She spent Saturday night hamming it up at Birton's (our neighbor) birthday party for all of the guests. People couldn't believe how wonderfully calm she was, but for some reason, Mommy and Daddy couldn't convince them to spend the night to get the full Emmalyn experience.
On a side note, Daddy missed out on a precious photo opportunity Friday morning due to his new-found overprotectiveness. As he approached the bassinet to kiss Emmalyn goodbye, he noticed two pointy, furry ears sticking up over the cover. Miss Sage had crawled into the bassinet and was peacefully (and safely!) asleep at Emma's feet*. Cute as it was, Daddy did not want to encourage this behavior, so he gently removed the kitty before taking a picture. Sage's ability to sneak into the bassinet has been (hopefully) eliminated to prevent a future occurrence. Emmalyn seemed completely unaffected by the invasion--in fact, she gave Daddy a grumpy face when he removed that soft, warm little heater from her feet.
*Mommy's note: Sage's stay with Emmalyn was less than 10 minutes as she had checked on Emma just prior to Daddy discovering the incident.**
**Daddy's note: Daddy could hear Emma cooing in the bassinet while he was getting ready, so he knew she was alright during those 10 minutes...but still surprised to see the kitty in there!

Aww, I bet that would have been a precious picture!
